IPL photofacial, Allegro Medspa, Santa Rosa

Learn more about our IPL in northern California and how it can help you look and feel your best.

If you are bothered by how your skin looks because of sun damage, fine lines, or dark spots, Allegro MedSpa of Santa Rosa can offer you a skin consultation at our office to see if you could benefit from intense pulsed light therapy (IPL).

An IPL photofacial from Lumenis One is a treatment that rejuvenates the skin for adults with hyperpigmentation, redness, age spots, and broken capillaries on their face and neck. Our IPL in Santa Rosa may not be an invasive procedure, but it can be very effective and produce amazing results. IPL treatments in Northern California send intense wavelengths of light that warm the skin just enough to set off the natural regeneration process and boost collagen production. As the added nutrients take effect, you should see a healthier layer with a more even tone and decreased spots of pigmentation.

WHO SHOULD GET IPL

Ideal Candidates

IPL photofacial, Allegro Medspa, Santa Rosa

Here’s a quick look at who is the ideal candidate for IPL in Northern California.

An IPL photofacial works deep within the layers of your skin to treat many complexion blemishes (especially sun spots and brown lesions) with little or no recovery needed. Ideal candidates for an IPL photofacial at Allegro MedSpa of Northern California may have several problems with their skin, including sun damage, rosacea, hyperpigmentation (brown spots), rough texture, large pores, flushing, freckles, age and sun spots, or spider veins. Our aesthetic team will assess your skin to see if you are a candidate for an IPL photofacial in Santa Rosa during your private consultation.

HOW IT WORKS

Procedure Technique

IPL photofacial, Allegro Medspa, Santa Rosa

Here’s how your IPL treatment works.

We perform photofacials inside our Santa Rosa, California office in about 20 – 30 minutes in one of our minor procedure rooms if performed alone. To start the IPL facial, the technician will clean and dry the skin to be treated before covering your eyes with shields. The photofacial is administered using a handheld device that passes over the skin while emitting pulses of laser energy. While most patients will feel some discomfort during the photofacial, it is generally tolerable for the quick treatment time.

What to Expect

Here’s what you can expect after IPL in northern California.

Side Effects

There is no recovery period associated with an IPL photofacial treatment, but you will leave your appointment with your skin a little red and swollen. This will go away on its own in about a day — you can conceal it with makeup if you want. Allegro MedSpa in Santa Rosa recommends patients use an ointment on the skin to decrease irritation and speed healing. It also helps to take anti-inflammatory medication to help decrease swelling.

Results

After several days, the irregularities that rested under the skin will come to the surface and then begin to flake off. It is necessary to keep your skin protected from the sun at all times after an IPL photofacial treatment and to not pick at your skin while it heals.

Follow up

While you should see visible results after the first session, your skin will attain the best results after several photofacial sessions. Our aesthetic team recommends approximately 4 – 6 treatments scheduled about three weeks apart at Allegro MedSpa in Santa Rosa.

FAQ

What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?

Intense Pulsed Light is a non-laser therapy that delivers an intense beam of light onto the skin. The pulses target brown and red spots on the skin, smoothing out the skin’s tone and texture. IPL is sometimes also known as Fotofacial or Photofacial.

Is IPL safe?

IPL treatments have been around for the past 15 years with a great safety track record.

How much does laser skin resurfacing cost?

Laser skin resurfacing costs vary based on the treatment you receive. In your consultation, we will ask about your skin problems and goals before reviewing the different resurfacing treatments. Then, we can help you decide on your resurfacing method and discuss costs. Allegro MedSpa of Santa Rosa often runs treatment specials and discounted packages, so ask about current specials during your consultation.

What’s the best type of resurfacing for me?

Our aesthetic team will help you decide which laser resurfacing treatment will best meet your needs and goals during your consultation. The best treatment for you will depend on the condition of your skin, your skin issues, and how deep you want your treatment to go. How long you are willing to give your recovery may also be a deciding factor when choosing your treatment type. When in doubt, it is best to select a lighter treatment to see how you like your results and adjust as needed for your next treatment.

How can I help my skin recover after a resurfacing treatment?

A member of our team will provide you with recommendations on how you can help your skin heal after a laser resurfacing treatment. The top rule is to not pick or peel your skin. This could create lasting damage, including scars. You should skip all hair removal methods in the treatment area, which means no shaving, waxing, or depilatory creams. We will also recommend an ointment to help soothe and heal your skin.

Should I get laser skin resurfacing, a chemical peel, or dermabrasion?

After listening to your skin problems, we will help you decide if laser skin resurfacing, a chemical peel or dermabrasion treatment will achieve your goals. While they all improve the surface of the skin, each has its own benefits and drawbacks. During your consultation, we can review each option and make a recommendation for your treatment.

How often should I get laser resurfacing treatments?

Depending on the resurfacing options selected for your treatment, you may need to wait several weeks or even months between appointments. Deeper treatments will provide longer-lasting results but will require a lengthy recovery period. You should talk to our staff about how often you are willing to come back for treatments so we can take this into account when choosing a type of resurfacing during your consultation.

How many treatments will I need?

We recommend a series of 5 treatments to reduce brown spots, smooth uneven pigmentation, and to reduce redness (rosacea).
