Breast Revision and Secondary Breast Augmentation

Lately we have been seeing more and more patients who have had breast enhancement surgery done elsewhere, and they come to us to address a problem or a concern. We love caring for these patients because the surgery is challenging, results are rewarding, and the patients, who have lived with their problem sometimes for years, are happy and grateful. Reasons for breast revision surgery include:

  • Implants in the wrong place
  • Hardening of the implants
  • Native breast asymmetry that wasn’t addressed
  • Changes in the breast shape after breast feeding or aging
  • Dissatisfaction with the size or shape of the breasts (like a double bubble)
  • Deflation of a saline implant

What do we do at surgery? It depends on what will meet the patient’s goals. Procedures we do include:

  • Raising or lowering the implants
  • Relaxing the capsule or scar around the implant
  • Lifting the breast
  • Decreasing the size of the areola
  • Lifting the level of the nipple
  • Replacing implants with larger or smaller implants
  • Changing the type of implant, usually from salines to silicone gels

When they’re all done, we’ve turned lemons into lemonade! The choices for breast augmentation revision are many, but make sure you see a plastic surgeon certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery.
