Replenish your skin. How Does The Sun Damage Skin? The sun can affect your skin in a variety of ways.

When sunlight hits our skin, the ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage cells called keratinocytes. Tanning beds and sunlamps can have the same effect, if not worse. These skin cells live in the outermost layer of the skin, the epidermis, and they give our skin its texture. UV rays can cause skin cells to lose their elasticity, resulting in wrinkles and sunspots (also known as age spots). Damaged skin can feel rough and scaly, sometimes resulting in bums and horn-like growths. The skin can appear discolored, with brown, black, and red spots.

Can Sunblock Prevent Aging of the Skin?

Getting Rid of Stubborn Fat

For those who grew up in the 1960s or 1970s, the idea of protecting the skin was foreign.

Using baby oil and foil reflectors at the beach was commonplace, and a “healthy tan” was a sign of skin vitality. Fast forward a few decades and we now see the effects of that sun damage as deep wrinkles, leathery skin, and precancerous growths called actinic keratoses (AK). Of course, the end result can be skin cancer.

It is important that one wear sunblock (SPF 30 or better) every day to protect the skin long-term. This is true for all complexions, but, in particular, those who are naturally blond and have light eyes need additional protection.

What Treatments Exist for Sun Damage?

Fat Reduction

At your Allegro MedSpa consultation, we will evaluate and examine your skin for signs of ultraviolet ray damage.

Besides a medical-grade skincare regimen, we may recommend a series of peels, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), or fractionated laser treatments (Fraxel, Resurfx, or Fx CO2). Healthy skin is a sign of youth and we can restore your skin to feel refreshed and healthy.
