The Bride’s Pre-Wedding Treatment Guide: Face and Skin

Congratulations; you said, “yes!” But before you say “I do,” you may consider adding cosmetic treatments to your wedding to-do list—a growing trend before exchanging vows.

The aesthetic experts here at Allegro MedSpa in Santa Rosa love helping brides look and feel radiant and, even more importantly, have spent years vetting skincare technology and treatments. Here, we feature our 6 favorite non-surgical facial procedures to help you walk down the aisle with grace, confidence, and an undeniable glow.

1. Get an instant glow with HydraFacial MD™

If you have yet to experience a luxurious HydraFacial, this relaxing treatment will be a welcome reprieve from wedding planning woes. Aside from providing some much-deserved pampering, this 5-step facial uses a continuous jet of water and specialty serums to deeply cleanse, nourish, and refresh your skin. HydraFacial can be customized to address your specific skin concerns, improving the look of:

  • Dull or uneven skin tone.
  • Age spots.
  • Acne breakouts.
  • Large or congested pores.
  • Rough textured skin.
  • Skin elasticity and tone.

When to schedule: HydraFacial is gentle enough to get the day of a special event, but we suggest booking this treatment a week or so before your wedding. This way, you’ll get in a bit of pampering and be able to enjoy glowing skin at pre-wedding events such as the rehearsal dinner.

2. Refresh your skin with a non-surgical skin treatment

To target specific concerns and achieve dramatic improvement in skin tone and texture, you’ll want to reach for more powerful treatments. While skin renewal procedures require more time to achieve full results, you’ll enjoy long-lasting improvements well into this new and exciting chapter in your life.

Laser skin rejuvenation is highly customizable, being available in 3 modes (ablative, non-ablative, and fractional). Treatment can be tuned to firm your skin, diminish surface skin imperfections, or reduce pigment irregularities. While most brides can benefit from a laser skin treatment, it’s key to be sure the provider you choose is very experienced in treating patients with your skin tone.

When to schedule: Book this treatment 4 months before you say “I do.” Depending on which laser treatment is performed to optimize your results, it may take up to 3 weeks for your skin to normalize and 2-3 months to see full results.

Chemical peels are offered in light, medium, and deep levels and can be used to improve skin texture, reduce hyperpigmentation, lessen sun damage, and soften signs of aging. A custom solution is applied to your skin and gently neutralized and washed away after a set amount of time.

When to schedule: To see full results, we recommend receiving this treatment 6-8 weeks before your wedding. You’ll notice more refreshed skin after the peeling process but your “new” skin may be sensitive. The level of the peel used will determine how long the peeling process will take—which can be a few days or up to a couple weeks.

RF microneedling treatment uses a needle-tipped device to create micro-punctures in your skin and deliver radiofrequency energy to boost collagen and elastic production. As your skin heals and more collagen and elastin is generated, you’ll notice gradual improvement in the appearance of dark spots, scarring, skin texture, and other imperfections. We recommend a series of 3 treatments to see ideal results.

When to schedule: Book your last treatment 6 months before the fun begins to allow enough time for collagen to rebuild your skin—about 10 months before your wedding if you wish to achieve optimal results with 3 treatments. You’ll need 4-6 weeks between each treatment to avoid damaging your skin.

3. Picture perfect lashes with LATISSE®

Latisse is FDA-approved to grow longer, darker, fuller lashes. With a simple, daily swipe of product across your lash line, this at-home prescription treatment is a great alternative to high-maintenance lash extensions and unnatural looking faux lashes. Whether your wedding makeup look is soft and natural or full glam, naturally enhanced lashes will be the icing on the cake.

When to schedule: Full results with Latisse are visible around 16 weeks, so book your consultation 4 or more months before the big day. With consistent use, you’ll enjoy natural, fuller lashes well beyond your honeymoon.

4. Refine and soften wrinkles with BOTOX®, Dysport®, or DAXXIFY™

Brides of all ages can benefit from BOTOX, Dysport, or DAXXIFY (DAXI) injections. These neuromodulators temporarily relax dynamic muscle movements, diminishing lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. Neuromodulators can also decrease the intensity of negative expressions like frown lines, helping you to look more happy and rested, and thus be more positively received by others.

Achieving a balance of muscle movement is the key to success with neuromodulators; this usually means placing an array of smaller amounts in a given treatment area versus directly targeting the most obvious muscles alone. (Here at Allegro Medspa, our highly-skilled nurse injectors thoughtfully personalize Botox treatment to achieve a youthful and pleasant appearance that still allows you to fully express yourself.)

This is a treatment your honey may want to get on board with as well: Botox for men is popular for both expression lines and treating hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

When to schedule: While neuromodulators don’t require recovery time beyond following day-of-treatment instructions, we suggest booking Botox treatment 3-4 weeks before the wedding to allow time for effects to fully take hold: this will allow your injector to take a nuanced approach and provide time for any desired touch-ups.

It’s important to understand the effects of neuromodulators can’t be undone and typically last between 3-4 months—thus, if you are new to Botox injections we recommend starting treatment even earlier. Starting 8-12 months prior to your wedding will allow your injector to get to know your muscle movement patterns (which matter greatly in treatment) and ensure you are pleased with your results when it comes to your special day.

5. Plump and enhance your face with dermal fillers

There are a variety of dermal fillers that can be used to add youthful volume to the face, soften flaws, or define and highlight features.

Fillers can:

  • Fill in lines and wrinkles.
  • Optimize lip contours.
  • Lift and volumize the cheeks.
  • Treat the sunken under-eye area.
  • Soften the appearance of scars.

There are two keys to success with injectable fillers: choosing the right formulation for the location (what is right for your lips won’t work well for your cheeks) and understanding how to place fillers effectively to achieve a natural result. A highly-skilled injector will, for example, add volume higher in the face to treat sagging in an area of concern below rather than treating the area directly, thereby avoiding unnatural puffiness that can be a tell-tale sign of fillers.

When to schedule: If you are newer to fillers, schedule your dermal filler injections at least a few months before photoshoots and/or the big day. There isn’t recovery time to worry about, they are quite lasting, and it’s helpful to leave time for touch ups. This will allow your injector to conservatively treat your areas of concern, see how you like the results, and adjust as needed to achieve a picture-perfect, natural look you’ll love.

6. Tone your face and neck with non-surgical skin tightening

For our brides (and grooms) who desire a younger, tighter appearance through their face and neck with no recovery time, we suggest employing non-surgical skin tightening with radiofrequency (RF) technology. RF stimulates collagen and elastin production allowing this treatment to tone facial and neck contours while also revitalizing the appearance of the skin.

Many brides make an effort to achieve pre-wedding weight-loss but find their success results in slight facial skin laxity; RF surgical skin tightening can compensate for this effect and help you enjoy your overall aesthetic results.

When to schedule: Full RF skin tightening results will be visible between 2-6 months, so we recommend booking your treatment 6 months before your wedding. The boost in collagen and elastin is a gradual process, but results are long-lasting and improve overall skin health.
