Laser hair removal is one of the most common cosmetic treatments in the United States. It is a convenient option for the long-term reduction of hair follicles on the body and face. For those who prefer the look and feel of smooth, hairless skin, the cycle of shaving, waxing, or plucking can be tedious and exhausting. That explains why so many people search “laser hair removal near me” in Novato, Santa Rosa, San Rafael, and all across Northern California!
Laser hair removal in Santa Rosa leaves the skin looking and feeling smoother. It produces long-lasting results compared to other hair removal methods.
Allegro MedSpa in Northern California provides safe and fast laser hair reduction treatments with Splendor X and LightSheer technology for women and men! LightSheer is a diode laser, which provides comfortable and effective laser hair reduction treatments. Splendor X uses BLEND X technology, a Binary laser emission of 1064nm and 755nm wavelengths, allowing us to use it on all skin tones and hair types.
Using these technologies, laser hair removal treatments can effectively and permanently reduce and eliminate unwanted hair growth. Embrace more “me” time without the prickles by scheduling treatments of the best laser hair removal near you!

How does laser hair removal work?
The answer to how laser hair removal works explains a lot about the limitations of the treatment! You have probably heard the best candidates for laser hair removal are those with fair skin and dark hair. This is because the laser light targets pigment, which absorbs the light and converts it to heat that damages the follicle and inhibits future growth.
Therefore, performing laser treatment on dark skin or light hair wasn’t always possible or effective. That said, laser technology has advanced a great deal over the years! At Allegro Medspa, we use lasers that can be used on various skin types thanks to their state-of-the-art features.
We will always have a skin consultation with you before scheduling your laser hair removal treatments in Sonoma County; that way, we’re confident you’re getting the best treatments for your needs.
The cycle of hair growth
Most people know laser hair reduction is a great way to permanently decrease hair growth. However, many don’t know that hair grows in cycles, and laser hair removal is only effective during the first of the stages of hair growth.
To account for those stages, we strategically schedule treatments 3-4 weeks apart, depending on which area you are treating. Let’s explore that hair growth cycle a little more.
The growth phase
We call the growth phase anagen. Cells in the root area of the hair divide, causing the hair to grow. Hair follicles are most receptive to the laser at this point because they are rich in protein and melanin. As we mentioned above melanin absorbs the laser and produces heat to damage the follicle. About 85% of hair follicles are in the anagen phase at any time.
The transition phase
After the anagen phase, follicles enter catagen, the transition phase. The hair stops growing at this point. Catagen lasts only 2-3 weeks and only about 5% of body hair will be in catagen phase at any given time.
The resting phase
The third and final phase of hair growth is telogen, the resting phase. This is the point in which the hair begins to shed, and the cycle restarts. Healthy head hairs remain in telogen for about 100 days, but other body parts have significant variation in how long telogen lasts. About 10% of follicles are in telogen at any given time.
Because hair follicles are only susceptible to lasers during anagen, we have to schedule multiple treatments set a few weeks apart. This allows us to catch the follicles during the right phase of the cycle.
Ideal candidates for laser hair removal
Reducing hair follicle growth with a laser is a gentle process that is suitable for most patients. In your consultation, you will talk about your needs, concerns, and goals to help determine if you are a fit candidate for the procedure. Ideal patients for laser hair reduction:
- Have unwanted facial or body hair
- Are tired of other hair removal methods (shaving, waxing, depilatory creams, bleaching)
- Have hair that is generally darker than their skin
- Are in overall good health
Where can I get laser hair reduction?
The experts at Allegro Medspa perform laser hair removal treatments on various body parts for both men and women. We commonly see patients who want to reduce hair growth on their:
- Intimate areas

At your laser hair reduction appointment near San Rafael, you relax in one of our treatment rooms while we clean the needed areas of your skin to remove dirt, oil, and moisturizers. During laser hair reduction, a technician stretches out the skin to provide a direct path between the root of the hair follicle and the laser. The laser’s energy targets and disables the hair follicle, which stops it from growing back.
Usually, you will need 3–5 sessions over 3–4 weeks to see your ideal results. We space appointments out to allow treated areas time to recover. This also allows time for hair follicles in the dormant growth phase to reach the active growth phase so we can treat them. The state-of-the-art technology we use at Allegro MedSpa of Santa Rosa can target the hair follicle alone to preserve the skin in the area we treat.
Is the hair removal permanent?
In the sense that it doesn’t result in 100% hairless skin for the rest of your life, no, the hair removal is not permanent. Frankly, there is not a permanent solution that prevents hair growth. Laser hair removal treatments in Northern California can destroy follicles, leaving you with far less hair growth in the area permanently. But most follicles are damaged by the laser, which puts them into a very long state of dormancy.
Sometimes patients go years without noticing regrowth. Most people find maintaining their results is easy with yearly maintenance treatments.
Can I do laser hair removal treatments at home?
Many home devices are marketed to perform laser hair removal, just like the treatments we perform at Allegro Medspa. However, at-home devices are no match for
There are a lot of things to keep in mind when you’re considering buying a home device versus getting professional treatments. For starters, they’re not as effective. Home devices also require higher levels of safety because the people using them have not received training.
Home devices have very small laser windows. Think 6 pulses or more per square inch of skin. And when you’re at home, you probably don’t have the same pain management capabilities as a medspa. You certainly won’t have a device with the cooling technology of the Splendor X or Lightsheer lasers we use on our Northern California patients.
Because of this, we don’t generally recommend spending money on a home laser device. If you want expert care, guaranteed results, and a comfortable experience, get your laser hair removal treatment near Larkspur from Allegro!
What have we learned about laser hair removal?
Professional technicians, like those at Allegro Medspa, perform laser hair removal with advanced laser technology. The light targets pigment in hair follicles, producing heat and damaging the follicle while protecting the surrounding skin.
Laser hair removal is only effective when hair follicles are in anagen, the growth phase. We schedule multiple appointments several weeks apart to account for the hair follicles being in different cycles.
The Lightsheer and Splendor X lasers are more comfortable than traditional laser hair removal. These unique and gentle technologies allow us to treat a wider variety of skin tones.
We perform laser hair removal pretty much anywhere on the body, even small and sensitive areas.
Laser hair removal is the most permanent hair removal option, but it’s still not 100% permanent. Damaged follicles eventually will grow hair again, but destroyed follicles will not regenerate. Most patients see a permanent reduction in hair growth, not a permanent removal of all hair.
